I attended this event as well, and also thought it was a great event. I will be writing about this and another event scheduled for tomorrow evening.
I thought Merkley fielded a good range of questions well, and was glad have him conclusively put to rest the silly blather coming from some quarters in the left-leaning side blogsphere about his full support of equal rights for non-heterosexuals on the Federal level, including repealing DOMA and scraping DA/DT/DP.
He has a proven record of actually having pushed through getting non-heterosexual equal rights in Oregon, and is committed to doing the same on the Federal level.
