From a reader: why is our party tarnishing its reputation?

Posted by Michael on March 11, 2008 at 6:27 p.m. in Politics

Charles Allen, a member of that fine group of people who actually read Witigonen, sent in this question:

Why is it that the party’s elder statesmen/women have decided that this a great election cycle to tarnish their reputation? First we had Bill Clinton’s comments in South Carolina and now we have Geraldine Ferraro’s comment that: “If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position.” It seems a shame that these individuals who have national credibility have decided that it is a better use of their time to attack other Democrats rather than the Republican nominee.

Good question. What do you think?

  • Greed and a desire to win an election? I really hope not. Or I hope so.

If not, then it's just the same old racism repackaged with a modern look, and with the nasty aspect of it being used for political gain. As much as I have respected Hillary Clinton in the past (despite her vote for the war, which was inexcusable), her campaign's actions are really mystifying.
