OR-5: It's Schrader Time
State Senator Kurt Schrader is running for Congress. His decision comes shortly after Paul Evans declined to run and in lieu of his wife, Clackamas County Commission Martha Schrader.
In announcing his run for Darlene Hooley's seat, Kurt spoke to the nuts-and-bolts work that Darlene has done in Washington, and notes that he wants to continue her legacy:
Schrader, a veterinarian and farmer, said that he'd like to continue Hooley's signature work on methamphetamines, identity theft and veterans' issues. He also said he hoped to work on broader topics, including health care reform, and transportation issues."We need to get some of the money that's overseas back in this country," he said. "We can't afford to build our transportation, our sewer and water systems without help from the federal government."
On the other side of the aisle, Republicans wet themselves (again) over the idea of, gasp, a LIBERAL running for ELECTIVE OFFICE SOMEWHERE:
Ken Spain, spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee in Washington, D.C., said he welcomes Schrader's emergence as the lone Democratic contender."Sen. Schrader has accumulated a long, liberal record of tax hikes and runaway spending," Spain said. "We plan to draw a very stark contrast between his record and the Republican position of lower taxes and smaller government."
Ha ha ha!
Runaway spending! Humongous government! Look out! I think I've heard that one before. Remind you of anyone you know?
Kevin Mannix is going to go down in flames.
