Bye Bye, John Edwards. Thanks for Everything.

Thanks for the memories, John Edwards. I'll never forget your progressive, populist run at history.

According to multiple sources, former Senator John Edwards will be ending his Presidential bid in the coming days. Edwards is a stalwart, tried-and-true progressive; he found his voice in this election cycle and drove himself left because he realized our country needed it.

For news perspective, this announcement comes on the heels of a Clinton victory in Florida. Where the decision leaves the electorate remains to be seen.

From universal healthcare to poverty, his campaign always focused firmly on the underdogs in America, those who endure the daily struggle to survive and make ends meet. While other campaigns fought, he continuously laid out progressive policy positions and worked his hardest to steer the primary to the left.

I would have voted for you, John. And I would have continued to do what I can to see your election. Thank you for running, and for doing your part for progressivism. This race was made better by having you in it. While he has not yet said whom he will endorse, or if he will endorse in the primary, I wholly expect that announcement to come in the coming weeks, perhaps even before Super Tuesday. "Conventional wisdom" thinks that he'll go for Obama, and I'd suspect that as well. For me, however, it's all about the timing and whether Edwards' key issue--poverty--gets co-opted in any significant way. At that point, and when Governor Bill Richardson endorses, we'll really know where we are.

Will Obama live to fight another day, or will Clinton begin to wrap this up in a week's time? We shall see. It's just too bad that, when the primary comes to Oregon in May, John Edwards won't be an active presence.
