Howard Weiner enters Portland City Council race
The crowded group of people currently vying for Commissioner Sam Adams' open seat just got a bit tougher as neighborhood activist Howard Weiner has officially entered the race. This follows a couple of weeks of speculation that he might. Weiner has a long history in Portland politics, starting with antiwar protests in the 60s and including a great deal of lobbying for skate parks (he owns Cal Skate Skateboards), chairing the neighborhood association of Old Town/Chinatown, and being one of Tom Potter's leading volunteers in his surprising mayoral election. What are his issues? No idea. He doesn't have a website up and articles so far seem to be pretty vague. Howard, if you're out there, get a website up! Or if it's up, make sure Google can find it. Thanks, Howard, for commenting - his site is at http://www.howardforportland.com/ and I encourage all of you to go check it out.
There are a lot of people in this race right now and a lot of decent candidates. As an aside, the mayoral race currently has eight contenders in it, the City Council #1 seat has six, and Randy Leonard's seat has three including Randy himself.

I support an open debate between the candidates and I look forward to the many debates ahead. Howard Weiner
