Sam Adams Boycott gaining momentum

Sam Adams Boycott gaining momentum

Bojack is reporting, with his usual diligence, on the latest step in the PR disaster that is Boston Beer. These guys had better step up, offer a full apology, and do it damn fast. Jeff Alworth on BlueOregon has pointed out that Boston Lager is apparently worthwhile - how about a few free kegs at some public event for compensation? And by, "a few," I really mean "sixty or more" and "some public event" I mean "my apartment, this Saturday."

Meanwhile, the Sam Adams Boycott is really taking off. There's a domain/blog up about it, which, if samadamsformayor.com got people in trouble, is bound to get under fire - and will probably have just as much community support. There's also an online petition up, which I encourage all of you to go sign. Rusty's Blog has a running commentary up about it, where he's encouraging people to use the picture on this page. I wonder if we're going to get a C&D letter. I'll be sure to post it here if we do.

These guys need to pull their heads out of their ass. This story has even gained national attention (via Fark). (that story, by the way, has an amazing quote from Good Sam: "They say they've been using this trademark since 1984," Adams said. "I've been using it since 1963." Go Sam!)

Boston Beer Company, take a step back, apologize, and make up for it. Your lawyers are making things much, much, much worse.

  • Who cares. Sam Adams, the beer, is a great tasting beer with a legitimate business interest in their product's name. Sam Adams, the arrogant (as usuall for most homosexuals) ultra political correct worshipping Portland City Councilman is a political douchebag riding his sexual preference to his political favor because Portlanders love their deviants regardless of their abilities. So Sam Adams the beer is doing what they will to protect their business interests and that's simply it! Now, I'm heading out with some friends tonight and I am going to make sure the only beer we buy tonight is Sam Adams beer. In fact I am going to go buy a dozen cases for my personal use and for holiday gifts! All you bitching and moaning nobodies can boycott the beer all you want for now because people will totally forget about your efforts in no time.

    • I bet you are not even from Portland. And no the suburbs dont count.

    • You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Way to make yourself look like a huge dumbass.

Have fun drinking your swill and alienating those to whom you give that beer as a gift (seriously, what are you thinking?).

Also, take your bigotism back to 1950, you piece of shit.

    • Wow. You take douchebagery to a new level. Along with stupidity.

    • Wow, you are clueless.

"with a legitimate business interest in their product's name"

You do know that trademark doesn't usurp political speech right? Also, you would also know after getting hit with a cluestick that more than one business can have the same name an not infringe if they are in different businesses and don't cause customer confusion.

Please tell me a.) what the mayor is selling and b.) how that is similar to the what the brewery sells.

Thank you. You may know go back to your regularly scheduled ignorance.

      • Nunuh! Beer is just like Politics. Like, somehow... I'm sure we could draw a parallel!

  • I'll drink to that Robert! ....and I DO live in portland!

  • Robert, this is about more than whether you like Commissioner Adams. I don't know if I do or not.

This is about corporations running rough-shod over our freedoms. This is about using the law as a weapon to batter people into submission, even as they do nothing wrong. This is about decency and respect and understanding. This is about dogs and cats, one day living together in peace and harmony. This is about fighting the notion that "might makes right" and standing up for common sense and basic human values. This is about freedom of speech. This is about Americans and America and everything that makes our country great.

Go ahead. Drink the swill. If you do, the terrorists win. If you hate America so much, move to Russia. You commie. There's a special place for traitors in hell. Just ask Judas.

As for me, I'll go drink good beer tonight with my American friends. Maybe I'll have a Widmer Blonde and appreciate the fact that they don't force flaxen-haired beauties to dye their hair brown to protect their niche in the market. Or I'll have some PBR (not good, but better than Sam Adams) and wear a Blue Ribbon, as is my God-given right.

Michael, glad to have you on board. You keep up your good work, and I'll keep up mine.

    ANARCHY!!!

  • Boston Beer is a little defensive - and it's no mystery why. Boston thinks that they are a "beer city" because of Sam Adams Beer, but they also know of Portland's reputation.

One of my professors at PSU told me that when he went to a bar in Boston, they barkeep was very proud of Boston's beer, and was anxious to tell a tourist all about how the selection would be better than he was used to, wherever he was from.

When this professor said, "I'm from Portland," the publican glumly replied, "Oh," and no more was heard about the local offerings.

    Poor Boston.

    • Word.

Makes me wonder why Samuel Adams even advertises in Portland.

Kinda like Subways in Philadelphia. Who are they trying to fool?

  • At this point, I think the only thing we can do for those poor deluded people like Robert is to leave them be.

Let them eat cake. It's what they deserve.

    • Silly Haze, the point is to antagonize trolls, not ignore them. Attention is what keeps them coming back and stimulating our conversations!
