Portland #2 Blogger Market
Turns out that Portland ranks #2 in the nation in terms of blogger market. 14% of Portland participates in a blog. (I would just like to point out that Witigonen contributes 90% of that 14% some 1.3% of the time.)
Maybe it's just me, and it very likely could be, but one of the most active blog scenes in the Portland area seems to be the political blogs - BlueOregon, Bojack, LoadedOrygun are all large political blogs, not to mention the numerous smaller blogs, like our good friends/cake-loving arch nemeses over at Beaver Boundary. One thing in common with the political blogs is that the population there has a larger proportion of older folk, actual professionals. Sure, there are a lot of "young kids" but the demographics aren't the type that this article is talking about. I want to know, how many regular contributors and readers on these blogs are "more likely than all Internet users to be a part of household that owns a PDA, MP3 player or have a satellite radio subscription"? Regardless, however, I consider the political blog scene of Portland to be phenomenal. It's certainly been good to energize the U.S. Senate primary debate (at the expense of thousands of kittens) and for getting the word out about important issues (Measure 49, Measure 50, evil brewing companies) and many, many other examples. We've got a good community going and my impression is that we're starting to turn that online community into offline action, which is really the most important goal.
I do hope, however, that this article is right, because that means that I'm "20 percent more likely than the national average to have an annual household income between $50,000 and $100,000 per year."
And they said I could never do anything with my life!

Taoiseach, you bloodsucker. You're gonna have to do your own dirty work now, do you hear me? Do you? You've managed to kill everyone else but like a poor marksman, you keep! missing! the target!

Ah, Michael, my old friend. Do you know the Klingon proverb that tells us revenge is a dish that is best served cold?
