Fake Disasters, Bloody Corpses, and Portland Zombie Walk 2007
You know what's more cool than a fake terrorist attack? A zombie flash mob!
I went over to Blogtown, PDX, my usual source for anything, and saw lovely pictures of the aforementioned fake "dirty bomb" attack. One of the people who commented at Blogtown mentioned Simon Pegg of Shaun of the Dead fame, and that got me thinking: does Portland have such a zombie mob?
WE DO WE DO WE DO!
My Google searches led me here, and boy was I happy to arrive. And I'm even happier because it doesn't seem to have happened yet! The target date is October 27, which is quite soon. Now, I don't know if this is the only zombie walk, or even an authoritative one, but I've dressed up as a zombie before for Halloween, and I relish the chance to do it again. I also don't have a Myspace account, so does anyone out there have one and can they give us more details from this zombie walk Myspace page?
Zombies have always fascinated me. After having a childhood irrational fear of them, I grew to appreciate their finer aspects. Thinking of Romero and his predecessors, zombies are an excellent source of satire and social commentary. From their voodoo roots (and the exploitative nature of those initial films) to the pure shock-and-awe modern form, zombies just keep getting better with age and always are fun for me.
Plus, as my wife demonstrates, there's nothing like a lady who enjoys watching zombie movies and planning for the zombie apocalypse with me.
Returning to the walk, I'd be happy doing it even if there are a few of us. Is there any way we can tie zeppelins into this event? Anyone want to consider doing this with me? Even if we're localized and away from the mob? In that light, what are the best locations for such a zombie walk? Downtown seems logical, but I also like the idea of frequenting several business districts in the inner SE, NE, and NW.
Onward, living death!

Comments from site editors have a darker background than comments from everybody else.I remember working at the Gap in Pioneer Place last year at this time and seeing all of the zombies walking through the mall (a few of them even fell down the elevator). According to the Myspace, this year is the third annual zombie walk and it starts at 6pm at the Pioneer Square... I'm so in!

Sweet, we'll have to meet there!
I guess peer pressure will send me to my undead voyage. Although I won't be able to "liveblog" it.

Thanks so much for that! I missed it, sadly, as I've been moving into my new home which (finally) came ready. There's always next year!

Hey guys,
I'm the organizer of the 3rd Annual Portland Zombie Walk. It will be on the 27th of October... despite what the Mercury said. That was a typo. We meet at Pioneer Courthouse Square at 6pm. Check the groups and the myspace page for more details. I don't think you need to have a myspace to see the stuff on the page.
