Fake Terrorist Attack (Again)

Posted by Dan on October 15, 2007 at 8:33 a.m. in Portland, Transportation, Zeppelins
Just a reminder about tomorrow's fake terrorist attack

Over at KATU they have a story about this week's fake dirty bomb excitement on the Steel Bridge.

"On Sunday, emergency crews got ready for the worst-case scenario, which is designed to test the response of local, state and federal officials to the breaking point," and if you follow the link you see pictures of the triage tents already setup and ready to go.

Now, I'm sure there's a lot to be learned from this exercise, but it seems to me that it may not be the most accurate simulation if everyone's poised and ready to jump ahead of time. If and when disaster strikes, will the triage tents still be there? If I die because someone didn't have enough practice setting up a tent, I will be pissed. I mean... I would be, if I weren't dead.

Good news, though - "Despite the size of the drill, don't expect to see any real-life disruptions on the roads, highways, bridges or hospitals."

Sure, KATU. I believe that.

And I'd think to myself "Oh, I should take the MAX." But could that possibly get any slower across the Steel bridge? Maybe a few of those 6,000 volunteers could get out and push. If only there were some flying device I could use to get to work...

For more information via indecipherable language packed with silly acronyms, check out the DHS Website. (Seriously, how can I get an acronym-writing job with the feds?)

  • They aren't actually staging anything on the Steel Bridge. It's all being done on a fake reproduction of part of the bridge out at PIR.

There won't be any traffic disruption unless people slow down to look for stuff that isn't there.

    • Thank God! Someone who actually knows about what's going on! In too short a supply 'round these parts.

  • This wouldn't be an issue if we were pressing forward with the Synthetic City initiative.
