Wash your goddam hands!

Posted by Michael on September 17, 2007 at 3:13 p.m. in News
Let us step up. Step up to the sink.

Reuters is reporting that only 66% of men wash their hands after going to the bathroom in a public restroom. Are you one of them? I'm going to assume that you're not, because otherwise I would never, ever shake your hand, you filthy piece of trash. Luckily, 88% of women wash their hands, which is fairly comforting.

Best part from that article:

"Very clearly, guys need to step up to the sink," said Brian Sansoni, a spokesman for the soap industry group, told reporters. "One third of guys weren't washing their hands in public restrooms. That's gross."

Yes. Let us step up. Step up to the sink.

Will we now start seeing more PSAs about washing our hands? I sure hope so. We need more things to make fun of.

  • Washing after the bathroom has little to do with the act of going to the bathroom and everything to do with an attempt to get people to wash their hands fairly often. Once everytime you make a trip to the loo is about right. Urine is sterile and the cursory wash done at the bathroom is not sufficient to really remove coliform bacteria. But if people didn't wash their hands very often, diseases (completely unrelated to excrement) would spread much more rapidly.

    • Are you saying that you're a dirty hippie?

      • No. I'm just saying you don't need to be disgusted by the statistic.

  • I'm worried about the soap industry representative who's telling me to wash my hands more often. I think he has motives unrelated to public health.

    • How dare you sir. The soap industry has spent its entire life trying to improve our lives. Every waking moment. It has foregone the pleasures that we take for granted. It's never seen a woman naked. Just so you can live a germ-free live. And now you suspect that its motives are not pure and clean? How dare you.

      • The soap industry has seen plenty of women naked. They even have commercials with women naked!

      • And I would never suggest that its motives are not pure and clean. Instead I propose that they are pure and clean in excess.
