Take a Look, Senator Craig. It's In a Book.

I promise not to make return trips to the whole Senator Craig thing, but since it's the biggest thing to hit the spud state since the Fiesta Bowl, let's just go with it.

Here's the thing that really stands out. If Senator Craig had read the John Kennedy Toole classic, A Confederacy of Dunces, the whole controversy might have been averted. In the book, Angelo Mancuso spends time in the men's bathroom at the bus station, looking for suspicious characters, so he can make a big bust. Life imitating art maybe?

  • He could have made the whole thing go away pretty easily if he'd known his constitution well enough to know he can't be arrested while travelling to or from the Capitol on official business, except in certain cases, such as treason.

    • I heard that there was an argument that this didn't apply to him... but whatever. It certainly sounds like it from the wording of the actual, you know, constitution.

That's actually one of my favorite clauses in it. I am a firm believer that our senators should be considered gods among men and, as such, exempt from any kind of pathetic "laws" or such things.

      Pft.

      Laws.

Where we're going, we won't need... LAWS...

  • On the Senator Craig thing in general, I'm just really happy that Idaho is finally getting the attention and scrutiny that it deserves.

    • Whether it comes from his wide stance or something, you know, good and pure...
